The brief review of Whole-Body EMS

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) also know as Electrical Myo-Stimulation, is a application using electrical current transcutaneously(from skin) to muscles through electrodes.

EMS can induce muscle involuntary contractions, which is an alternative of muscle movement driven by brain (action potential).

Different from the autonomic contraction of the central nervous system, the muscle area stimulated by EMS is more comprehensive, especially some muscle groups that are not driven by general movement, such as the  pelvic floor muscles.

Traditional EMS has been widely used in medical, rehabilitation, fitness and other fields. However, this technique is limited to muscle stimulation in local areas or single ability(eg.  jump ).

In contrast, Whole Body EMS (usually referred to as EMS with at least six pairs of electrodes placed in the large muscle group) is more advantageous in related fields. It is characterized by

1. Exercise more muscle groups simultaneously in a single exercise to improve efficiency ;

2, WB-EMS stimulate the autonomic nervous system, which can effectively increase maximum oxygen uptake and other physiological indicators. Thereby achieving the effect of aerobic training .

3. Besides physiological effects, WB-EMS might also have a strong psychological impact  on mood, nervousness, or the current level of stress.

Balanx EMS Training Set

In addition to the above studies, our team(BalanX) has also found that Whole-body EMS can be used as a good warm-up for the core and limbs before heavy training or long cardio sessions. This training mode will help users reduce the risk of sports injuries. We are looking for some academic institutions and sports clubs to study these merits.
